J. S. Meresmaa

J.S. Meresmaa (b. 1983, she/they) is an award-winning Finnish author specializing in fantasy and other speculative fiction. Her works have been nominated for multiple literature prizes and have received glowing reviews from critics and readers alike.

Many of her short stories have been translated into multiple languages. Her steampunk MG novel Naakkamestari (The Jackdaw Master) was published in Hungarian in 2023 as A Csókamester, and her picture book Minä en pelkää (I Am Not Afraid) appeared in Estonia in 2024 as Mina ei karda.

Meresmaa previously worked as a gardener and warehouse worker and is now a full-time author. She has edited numerous anthologies and actively promotes the recognition and visibility of children's and young adult literature. She is a founding member of the co-operative publishing house Osuuskumma and a former chair of its board.

She lives in Tampere, Finland, surrounded by a horde of books, plants, and guinea pigs.
