Mia Myllymäki

Mia Myllymäki (b. 1985) is a Finnish author and editor living in Kokkola, on the west coast of Finland. She writes various genres of speculative fiction, from alternate history and fantasy to hopepunk and possible futures.

Myllymäki has published four novels, and her short stories can be found in various anthologies and magazines. Her latest novel Huomistarhuri ("The Hope Sower", Gummerus 2023) was shortlisted for Tähtivaeltaja Award in 2024. Her earlier novels are Väkevä mieli ("Strong Mind", Osuuskumma 2017), Tuulten amiraali (The Admiral of Winds", Osuuskumma 2020) and Kirosielu, rajanhaltia ("Cursed soul", Osuuskumma 2020).

Myllymäki is also a chemical engineer, an accountant and an editor. She writes about power, mental health issues, and she is inspired by both nature and technology. Currently she is working on a fantasy novel trilogy, to be published in 2026–2028 by Osuuskumma.

In addition to her working with fiction, Myllymäki has co-edited several short story anthologies. Among them is Metsän kronikka  tarinoita puista ("The Forest Chronicles  tales from trees", Osuuskumma 2019 with Anu Korpinen), which is going to be translated into Portuguese and Ukrainian. Myllymäki has also co-edited a writer guide Tuoretta verta  Kauhukirjoittajan opas ("Fresh Blood  Horror Writer's Guide", Suomen tieteis- ja fantasiakirjoittajat ry 2018) with Marko Hautala and Anne Leinonen. Myllymäki works as a freelancer-proofreader for some Finnish publishing houses.
