Mia Myllymäki: Huomistarhuri

"Inside me, I feel stirring. A small part of me still wants to argue, but the part of me that thirsts for peace has grown larger. I have a seed, and it's sprouting."

Year 2057. Stille Triple lives in Egaleco, an egalitarian eco-city, somewhere in Middle Europe. It's one of a few places where life goes on, after the world has gone through a serious number of catastrophes, some of them caused by humankind, some of them just by the normal action of our planet. Almost all the cities of the world, billions of lives, and all the computer-based technology have been lost.

Stille lives in a bosco verticale, a vertical forest, with their new brother AJ, who they met on the road when they escaped from Finland years ago. Stille had to leave their spouse behind, and also the escape and the fight against an almost sure death have left their mark on them. Stille made decisions that hunt them. Not even in the utopian city of Egaleco and with the help of their brother can they find peace.

Then, a group of delegates from The New States, behind the Atlantic Ocean, arrives at Egaleco to ask help with building egalitarian constructions in Haven of Fox, a small shelter in the ruins of New City. Stille hesitates, but they decide to leave from a city of hope to a city of no-hope. Stille needs to find out how to sow the seeds of hope, but at first they need to find the hope for themselves.

"The Hope sower" is a novel about hope, forgiveness and new opportunities in a world where hope is not necessarily easy to be seen.

"Myllymäki's novel builds a multi-layered picture of the post-apocalyptic world. The novel does not wallow on hopelessness but sees the catastrophe that has affected humanity as an opportunity to develop more sustainable communities and ways of life. Models to learn from for today's reality." – Helsingin Sanomat / Toni Jerrman 7.5.2023
